Louise Birchett McLauchlin, 97, of Hopewell, died at home on October 11, 2021 surrounded by her family. Born on January 13, 1924 in Prince George County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Drewry Birchett, Sr. Mrs. McLauchlin was the widow of her husband of 62 years, Bruce Darrow McLauchlin, Sr. Mrs. McLauchlin was preceded in death by her siblings; brothers, Thomas Drewry Birchett, Jr., Dr. John Major Birchett, and sister, Edith Birchett Leftwich.
Mrs. McLauchlin devoted her life to her family. Her calling was as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Known for her beautiful smile, her devotion, enthusiasm, kindness, and generosity reached far beyond her own family and into the hearts of many. Mrs. McLauchlin’s greatest legacy will be her unconditional love, her deep faith, her awe of nature, her flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, and her renowned hospitality. Mrs. McLauchlin was also deeply committed to her church throughout her long and remarkable life.
Mrs. McLauchlin enjoyed travels with her family to England, Scotland, Hawaii, and throughout the United States. She spent many summers enjoying family beach trips to the Outer Banks. For almost 60 years, Mrs. McLauchlin lived in her beloved home, which is one of Hopewell’s unique Sears homes.
Mrs. McLauchlin is survived by her two sons, Bruce Darrow McLauchlin, Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and David Wayne McLauchlin of Hopewell. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Catherine Pond of Chester, Virginia, Kelly McLauchlin of Temecula, California, Eric McLauchlin and his wife, Tracey of Fallston, Maryland, and Sara McLauchlin of Maricopa, Arizona. Mrs. McLauchlin is survived by seven great-grandchildren, including Laura Pond Foy and her husband, Steven, of Chesterfield, Virginia. Additional survivors include her nephews, Brad Thomas Birchett of Richmond, Virginia, Drew A. Leftwich of Forest, Virginia; niece, Kyle Leftwich Banning of Richmond; cousin, Kay Bickings of Hopewell; her church family, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Hopewell Chapel of the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park, South Prince George, VA.
