LT COL Ira Joseph Kail, U. S. Army (Retired), 93, of Lynchburg, VA, formerly of Petersburg, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010. Born in Gallipolis, OH, he was the son of the late Ira Jacob and Marilla Marie Bovie Kail. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ferris Kail. LT COL Kail was a graduate of Ohio State University where he received a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering. He served in the United States Army for 25 years including service in World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in European ground operations. Following his active duty career, he worked in a civil service position at Bellwood, Richmond, VA until his retirement. LT COL Kail is survived by his sons, Dr. James J. â??Jimâ? Kail, DDS and wife, Joan of Chesapeake, VA and Frederick B. â??Boâ? Kail, MSN and wife, Liz of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren, Kim Armentrout and husband, Darrin of Midlothian, VA, Jeff Kail and wife, Denise of Chesapeake, VA, Kristin Stowe and husband, David of Richmond, VA, Nancy Freerksen and husband, Brian of Lynchburg, VA, Joe Kail and wife, Leana of Lynchburg, VA, and John Kail of Macon, GA; and ten great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at Noon on Wednesday, December 8th at St. Paulâ??s Episcopal Church, 110 Union Street, Petersburg, with The Rev. Rick Greenwood, Rector, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will follow the service at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA.
