Ashby â??Willâ? Wilfred Hardy, 95, of Petersburg, born June 4, 1912 passed away February 18, 2008. He was born in Dinwiddie Co., the son of the late Ashby Williamson Hardy and L. Dora Chambers Hardy. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Margaret Dever Hardy on June 1, 1995 whom he met in India while she was serving as Director of the American Red Cross and by his parents and three siblings, Gwendolyn Hardy Williams, Helen Louise Hardy La Bell and Carl C. Hardy, Sr. Will is survived by his son, Vincent D. Hardy and wife, Cindi James Hardy; two grandchildren, Douglas Vincent Hardy and Hannah Dever Hardy of Petersburg, VA., he graduated from Petersburg High School and attended University of Richmond, was a member of the U.S. Army for 26 years and retired as a Lt. Col. in 1967. During WWII he was stationed in India and was engaged in the transportation of supplies to the troops on the China front. During the Korean Conflict, he was stationed in Hiedleburg, Germany from January 1953 through May 1956, he also completed a â??14 month tour of dutyâ? in South Vietnam from February 1961 through March 1962. During his Army Career he served in the following capacities, Adjutant to Commanding General at Fort Lee, Comptroller of the Quartermaster School at Fort Lee and Adjutant to Major General Victor McLaughlin, Commanding General at Defense General Supply Center. Following his military career, he was a employee of civil service with the Department of Defense from 1966 through 1978. After his retirement from civil service, he was employed as a real estate agent by Alsage, Cooper, Flair and Realty Group, Inc. for five years. â??Willâ? was an active member of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church from 1956 until his death, and was a member of the County Club of Petersburg for over 50 years. The family wishes to extends special thanks to Sylvia Harris, Carla Davis, Crystal Edwards, Suzette Walker, Annie White, and Florence Goodwyn, who cared for â??Willâ? during the last 14 months of declining health, they would also like to extend special thanks to James and Jan Horner for their loyal friendship. Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, February 22, 2008 at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Blandford Cemetery.
