LTC John Edward â??Jackâ? Bonner, U.S. Army (Retired), age 74, of Colonial Heights, passed away on July 10, 2012. Born in Weymouth, MA, he was the son of the late George and Dorothy Naples Bonner. He was a graduate of Arch Williams High School in Braintree, MA, and received a degree in Business Science from Boston College. LTC Bonner retired from the United States Army after 30 years of active duty service. Following his military career, he worked as Chief Validation Officer for the Virginia Lottery until retirement. A longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, of which, he served as Grand Knight and 4th Degree Knight. Mr. Bonner is survived by his wife, Ruth Bonner; two children, John David Bonner of Erie, PA., and Dana Michele Nierenberg of Los Angeles, CA.; five grandchildren, Collin and Meredith Bonner, Ryan and Robert Lain, and Sean Nierenberg; three brothers, George Bonner and wife, Helen, W.M. Bonner and wife, Pat, and Richard Bonner and wife, Kathy; and a host of nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 16th at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Brian Capuano as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church followed by visitation with the family.
