Lucille Virginia Brockwell Derby, 88, of Petersburg went to be with the Lord Friday, September 8, 2006 at Southside Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness at Colonial Heights Health Care Center. She was the daughter of the late Steven Lee and Hallie Atkins Perkinson and was preceded in death by her husbands, Arlick L. Brockwell, Sr., and J.P. Derby. She was an active member of High Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 35 years, was head of the Primary Department, Superintendent of the Childrenâ??s Division and on the Administrative Board for many years. She was a member of the Ida Allgood Circle, United Methodist Women and sang in the choir for over 40 years. She was locally known for gospel singing, in personal appearances and on the radio with her sister, Ruby L. Cook in the 30â??s and 40â??s. She is survived by her sons, Arlick L. Brockwell, Jr., and his wife Ruth; Gerald Ashley Brockwell; and a daughter, Bonnie L. Brown and husband, Russell; step-son, Paul Derby and wife, Barbara; step-daughter, Joyce Powell; daughter-in-law, Judy N. Brockwell, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Monday, September 11, 2006 from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 10 am at the funeral home.
