Lydia Anna Varga

February 28, 1928 — January 8, 2021

Lydia Kvetko Varga, 92, of Prince George, VA, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 following a long illness. Lydia was born and raised in Sussex, VA. She was the daughter of the late George Sr. and Anna Wiesner Kvetko. She was a loving mother and grandmother, devoting time to her family and church after her retirement from the Virginia State Board of Health in 1993. She was an active member of Sycamore United Methodist Church where she participated in service with the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school, and served on several committees. She was also an active member of the Prince George Women’s Club, Virginia Farm Bureau, and Home Demonstration Club up until the time of her illness. She was a Master Gardener with a green thumb, and enjoyed sewing, playing the piano and writing poetry. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Ben Varga, and brothers George Kvetko and John Kvetko. She is survived by her children Patricia Varga, Dianne Dyer and husband Robert, Lois Haynes and husband Wayne, Joan Miller and husband Greg, Janice Hellmer and husband Ralph, and John K. Varga and wife Tammy; grandchildren Josh Varga, Tyler Varga, Lindsay Aragon, Miranda Michau , Wendy Mouthrop, Jason Harris, Christopher Harris, Austin Miller, Rebekah Barnes, Christi Dyer, Sean Dyer, Melissa Cassady; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister Virginia Moncol of Richmond; devoted caregiver Louise Parker who she loved like a daughter, and several great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service and interment will be conducted Saturday January 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens with Rev. DeWayne Duncan and Rev. Gibby Elder officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sycamore United Methodist Church, 9710 Old Stage Road Prince George, VA. Condolences may be registered online at www.jtmorriss.com .
