Mabel Coley Minetree

June 4, 1923 — October 17, 2015

Mabel Coley Minetree, 92, of Petersburg, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015. She was born in Matoaca, the daughter of the late James C. and Evelyn Perkinson Coley. Mrs. Minetree was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church, where she played the organ for several years. After moving to Petersburg, she became a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church, and when it closed, she joined Second Baptist Church. She was a member of the Federated Women’s Club of Petersburg; a member of TWIG at Southside Regional Medical Center, where she also served on the Hospital Guild Board for over twenty years; a member of the Appomattox River Garden Club and the Burlington Garden Club. Mrs. Minetree is survived by her daughter, Laraine Minetree Smith, and her grandson, Harold Minetree Smith. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 22 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, October 23 at Second Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church, 3355 Johnson Road, Petersburg, VA, 23805 or Massey Cancer Center, P.O. Box 843042, Richmond, VA, 23284.
