Mabel Upchurch Edens

Mabel Louise Upchurch Edens, 90, of Chester, Virginia, formerly of Hopewell, passed from this life on October 19, 2005 in John Randolph Nursing Home. Louise was born in Petersburg, the daughter of the late Louis and Mabel Upchurch. She was the widow of Richard A. Edens, her devoted husband of 61 years. She was preceded in death by her daughter, June E. Purdy of Chester, a sister Helen Johnson of Cleveland, OH and her daughter-in-law Barbara Drake Edens. She is survived by her son, Richard L. (Buddy) Edens, Sr. and his wife Joy, of Hopewell, 7 grandchildren, Randall Purdy of Carolina Beach, NC, Jill Perlstein and husband Mark of Mechanicsville, Janet Purdy, Rich Edens and wife Ida, Dawn E. Hurt and husband Lee, all of Chester, Chad Edens and wife, Beth of Hopewell and Holly Edens of Richmond; 5 great grandchildren, Shawnie Gaytan and husband Bryan, Barbara Edens, Jordan Hurt, Joanna Hurt and Joshua Hurt, all of Chester, also 2 step grandsons, Dustin and Brandon Franchok of Hopewell and one great great granddaughter, Bryanna Gaytan of Chester. She is also survived by a sister, Marie Westmoreland of Newport News, VA and several nieces and nephews. Louise was a devoted member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, Hopewell, a past member of Chester and Hopewell Garden Clubs, past president of the Garden Club in Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends Friday, October 21, 2005 from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 11:00 AM in Woodlawn Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Edward Bellis, Pastor officiating. Interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell.
