Mable Ellen Dalton Akers

Mable D. Akers, 97, of Hopewell, VA, widow of Henry C. Akers, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Born in Pulaski, VA, she was the daughter of the late W.C. and Ida L. Dalton. She was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Wesley Akers; a daughter, Sharon Lynne Akers; daughter-in-law, Peggy Jean Akers, two brothers and a sister. Mrs. Akers was a retired employee of State Planters Bank (now SunTrust) and was a member of First Baptist Church and Southside Striders. She loved flowers, crocheting, and doting on her grandkids. Mrs. Akers will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who inspired everyone that met her. She is survived by a son, Michael Akers, Sr.; four grandchildren, Michael, Jr. (Megan), Anne Murray (Jeff), Susan Leslie, and James Turner (Ashley); eight great-grandchildren, Rachel, Amber, Brittany, Jasmine, Art, Anthony, Ayden, and Tyler. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
