Mallie Bullock Murray

Mrs. Mallie Bullock Murray, 71, of Chester passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017. Mallie was an avid sports fan. She was an active supporter of all Thomas Dale H.S. athletics, the Dale Wrestling Club, a founding member of the Harrowgate Athletics Association, and NASCAR fan. She adored bowling and was a state bowling champion in 1982 and 1983 as a member of the “Tuesday Morning Glories.” She was a fervent supporter of many community advocacy groups including veterans’ causes serving as a member of the Blue Star Mothers of America, the Fisher House, and Wounded Warrior Project. Additionally she was a member of the National Foundation of Infectious Diseases and performed many duties to spread the social awareness of deadly diseases. She served as a voting Officiant at the Chester precinct for 30 years. After retiring from the Hon Company, Mallie became a wedding officiant and married hundreds of local couples. She loved all things southern, especially “four o’clock high tea”, aprons and her teacup collection.
Mallie is predeceased by her one true love, Woodrow Douglas Murray, Jr; her father and mother, Edward Joseph Bullock, Sr. and Clementine Gentry Bullock; her step-father, Sam Robinson; and her brother, Raymond Bullock. She is survived by her two sons, Woodrow D. Murray, III. and Major Michael G. Murray, II (USMC Ret); grandchildren, Rachel Murray, Noah Murray, Bridget Murray, Jacob Murray, Marybeth Murray, Michaela Murray, and Lucas Murray. She is also survived by her great-grandson, Ryan Powers. Mallie is also survived by her sister, Peggy Stoots; her brother, Ed Bullock; her step-brothers, Howard Perross, Ricky Clark, Allen Perross and his wife, Betty. She is also survived by many loving in-laws from the Murray family that she loved dearly and a plethora of nieces, nephews and friends that she adored.
Mallie wanted her final words to be, “Y’all don’t worry about me, I will be dancing in heaven with Doug.” Visitation will be held at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester Virginia from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the funeral home. Final interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
