Margaret Hartley Greene Thompson, 94, formerly of Emporia, VA, widow of James Russell Thompson, Jr., passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005, in Nashville TN. Born in Stony Creek, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Andrew and Eleanor Mason Greene. She and Russell owned and operated Emporia Furniture Co. for 60 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Emporia, an affiliate member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Richmond, a life member of the Presbyterian Women of the Church, past Worthy Matron of Emporia Chapter No. 46 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Raparian Woman?s Club, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Village View Foundation. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by an infant son, James Russell Thompson, III and a sister, Christine Greene Lowe. She is survived by her sons, Berry Hartley Thompson and wife Marty of Nashville, TN and William Greene Thompson and wife Judie of Mechanicsville, VA; her grandchildren, Marina Gayle Puinno and husband Tony, Stuart Carter Thompson and wife Jamie, both of Nashville, and Victoria Noel Thompson of Columbia, SC; her great-grandchildren, Shirley Nicole Puinno and Adam Anthony Puinno; and two loving nieces, Martha Gates and Mary Sue Dougherty. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 PM Sunday, June 26, at First Presbyterian Church, Emporia with the Rev. Dr. Zolton Phillips, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Emporia Cemetery.
