Margaret Elizabeth Guthrie

Margaret Spiers Guthrie , 95, passed away peacefully at her home in Dinwiddie County,Va.on march 20 , 2015. Margaret was born August 19, 1919 in Carson Va. She was preceded in death by her husband , Meritte Hendrick Guthrie, Jr. father, John Ellis Spiers, mother Olive Elizabeth Swertfeger Spiers ,Step-mother, Noble Rose Hite Spiers , brother Elwood Spiers ,Granddaughter , Tara Page Burlage and sister-in-law, Helen Russell Smith and Octavia Friend Richardson. Margaret is survived by Sons, Meritte Hendrick Guthrie III and his wife Gail of Wilmington, NC. and Walter Branch Guthrie and his wife Sharon of Atlantic Highlands , N.J. And John Spiers Guthrie of Lynchburg ,Va. Granddaughter Meagan Guthrie Rowan and Great-Grandsons Gabriel, Odin, Fynn , and Jaxon Rowan of Greensville, S.C. As well as many Nephews , Nieces , and their families. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Kathy Wade who was a steadfast companion to Margaret for the past 7 years and to Betty Fields, Margo Combo and Carolyn Pemberton for their care and kindness. Margaret was devoted to her family and church , preparing and serving many wonderful meals for members of both groups. She enjoyed roadtrips with her sister-in-law Russell and visits with family and friends. It was very important to her to be there for family and friends. She never forgot her friends in Southwest Virginia. Visititation for Margaret will be held on Wednesday march 25, 2015 from 11:00am to 12 noon with a service at 12 noon at the Petersburg Chapel. The family is being served by The J.T Morriss & Son Funeral home , Petersburg Chapel.
