Margaret Ellen Monroe, 64, died Monday, May 7, 2007 at her home on Marina Drive, Surry, VA., with her family by her side. Born in Lynchburg, VA she was the daughter of the late David Franklin Martin and Marie Frances McFadden Martin. Margaret worked in utilities for an industrial company and along with her husband of 44 years, Jerry Owen Monroe, operated Grayâ??s Creek Marina in Surry for over 10 years. A loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved being outdoors, and she will be greatly missed by her family.
Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Cindy Ann Kyttle and husband, Bert; sons, Jeffrey Owen Monroe and Carl Daniel Monroe; grandchildren, Karla Marie Monroe, Jamie Lee Monroe, Kelley Danielle Gaines, Krystal Renea Gaines, William Chase Gaines, Sarah Ruth Vassar, Corina Olivo; great-grandchild, Dominic Olivo; brothers, Kenneth Martin and wife, Carol, Ronald Martin and wife Phyllis, Franklin Martin and wife, Ruth, Roger Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Wright.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, Virginia. Interment will follow in the Callahan Family Cemetery in Evington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 188, Surry, Va 23883. Along with the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Wakefield, Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, assisted the family with the arrangements.
