Margaret Hobson Ostergard, age 88, died on August 26, 2011. She was a resident of the Dunlop House, a caring and loving community in Colonial Heights, Virginia.

Maggie was born August 14, 1923 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire England, known as the "Potteries". She was the youngest of three girls. Her father, Arthur Hobson served on the Board of Directors of Aynsley China. In 1946 she married Dr. Robert Preston Ostergard, an American pediatrician stationed nearby. They honeymooned in London and celebrated VE Day looking out from their hotel room to see the crowds celebrating in Trafalgar Square.

After the war, they moved to Warren, Ohio. Her husband Bob set up a pediatric practice in this small steel town. Maggie was very active in the Warren Community, the medical auxiliary, and her church, Christ Episcopal.
They raised one daughter, Candy.

In 1967, she and her husband Bob moved to Petersburg, Virginia where he took a job as a clinician for the Petersburg Health Department. Maggie took on her first job as an employment counselor for Kogen Personnel. She loved Petersburg and all of it's history. She was quite active in the Altrusa Club and the Art League.. Many close and treasured friendships were made with her neighbors on Westchester Drive, and her churches, St. Paul's and later Christ and Grace Episcopal.

Maggie is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Stefan Osdene of Richmond, Virginia, one grandson, Stefan Robert Hobson Osdene of Madison, Wisconsin, his wife Michelle Hough Osdene, and one great grandson, Mason Thomas Osdene.
She has one niece, Ann Sharratt Hollingsworth, a nephew, John Sharratt and his wife Pam. Additionally, there are numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews all living in England.

It was a point of honor for Maggie to never surrender her British Nationality. She remained a British Subject to the end. Here's to England, her dear sisters, Norah and Betty, her beloved husband Bob, and all those she loved who are waiting to see her again. Goodnight and God Bless.

A graveside service will be held at Blandford Cemetery, on Tuesday, August 30th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the Salvation Army or the Historic Petersburg Foundation, P. O. Box 691, Petersburg, VA 23804. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
