Margaret Ogburn Poole, 103, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015. A longtime resident of Colonial Heights, she had resided at the Petersburg Home for Ladies since 2007. Born “at home” in Dewitt, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Ogburn and Cora Baicy Ogburn Winn. She was also predeceased by her husband, Owen O. Poole and her three brothers; Jesse Ogburn, James Wilbur “Dick” Ogburn and William Henry Ogburn.
Margaret was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights where she sang in the choir until the age of 90. Always stylishly dressed, she enjoyed music, all types of needlework, bridge, traveling, being with friends and playing golf! Most of all, she loved her family.
She is survived by her son, Owen O. Poole, Jr, and his wife Denise; daughter, Suzanne P. Wright and husband, Cleve; grandchildren, Lydia Lee Poole, Owen O. Poole, III, John Chesley Poole, Margaret Wright Carlin and her husband, Adam, Cleveland A. Wright, Jr and his wife, Amanda; great grandchildren, Connor Elizabeth Wright and Caroline Louise Wright. She is also survived by two nephews, William Henry Ogburn, III and Walter Roy Ogburn; a niece, Bonnie Ogburn Porter; two great nieces Melanie Hale and Hilary Hale Reeh, and one great nephew, Brian Ogburn Dean.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Board and the Staff of the Petersburg Home for Ladies, for their exceptional kindness and care. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 13th at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private.
