Margaret P. Samko transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father in the early hours of October 24, 2009. After a brief hospitalization, she returned home under hospice care to pass away surrounded by loved ones. Born Margaret Lorraine Pearson July 7, 1928 to Elizabeth Shelby and William Pearson, she was raised in Hopewell, Virginia. She graduated from Hopewell High School and attended what is now Longwood College. Employed at Hummel Ross, currently known as Smurfit Stone Container Corporation, she met and married George Samko on August 14, 1956. Their daughter, Lorraine Samko, was born in 1959. Margaret was a beautiful and intelligent woman. A real estate investor, she obtained her realtorâ??s license and later her real estate brokerâ?? license. After working for Bogese Inc. and Simmons Real Estate, she operated her sole proprietor business Margaret Samko Real Estate until 2008. Margaret also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed time with her family fishing in the Outer Banks. An animal lover, she supported several animal welfare charities. She is survived by her husband George Samko, her daughter Lorraine Samko and her grandson Jeremiah Samko-Snellings. The family will receive friends at J.T. Morris Funeral Home in Hopewell on Monday October 26 from 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel Tuesday October 27 at 4:00 pm. with Rev.
