Mrs. Margaret Burgess Sampson, 76 of Hopewell died Friday, October 1, 2010 in Hopewell Health Care Center. Mrs. Sampson was born on October 30, 1933 in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in Montclair, New Jersey. She lived at home while she attended school at Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey and Rutgers College of Nursing in Newark, New Jersey where she received a BS in Nursing. While a student at Upsala College she met and married her husband, LTC Richard Edward Sampson on May 31, 1958 in Grace Presbyterian Church, Montclair, New Jersey, son of Eric Garfield Sampson and Ellyn Agnes Christine Hanson. Richard and Margaret have written several books on the peoples of Eastern Kentucky. Among them are Marriage Book I, â??Leslie County, Kentucky, 1879-1885â?, â??Leslie County, Kentucky Deaths 1995â?, â?? Leslie County, Kentucky Marriages 1884-1894â? and â??Descendants of Thomas Begleyâ?. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Oliver R. Sampson (Margo Nowlin Sampson) Imnenstaad, Germany, Eric R. Sampson (Rose Downs) of Highland Springs and a grandson, Charles Sampson, also of Germany. Funeral services will be held 2pm on Wednesday October 6, 2010 with visitation to be held 1 hour prior to service at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Michael Browder, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment to follow Appomattox Cemetery.
