Margaret M. Simpers, formerly of Chester, 88, died February 14, 2005. She was the widow of Robert S. Simpers and the daughter of the late John C. and Katherine B. Mercer. She was a 1938 graduate of Children?s Hospital Nursing School, Pittsburgh, PA. As a Navy nurse in 1941, she was stationed in San Diego when the first casualties of the bombing of Pearl Harbor arrived. In Chesterfield County, she was a school nurse and volunteer. Mrs. Simpers was a life member of the Parent Teachers? Association; President of the Women?s Club of Chester, 1967-1968; President of the Parliamentary Law Club of Richmond, 1982-1983; member of Alpha Delta Kappa, international honorary sorority for women educators; member of the Order of the Eastern Star; appointed member of the Virginia Commission for Children and Youth by Governor Mills Godwin, July 29, 1976; appointed as a member of the Advisory Board for the Virginia Department for Children by Governors John N. Dalton, Gerald L. Baliles and Charles Robb, 1978-1988; received 40 year Service Award from the American Red Cross and was a member of the Board of Directors, 1976-1982 and Disaster Chairman 1978-1980. She is survived by two daughters, Ada S. Graham of East Patchogue, NY and Frances S. Scott of Norfolk, VA and two grandchildren, Kelly J. Scott and Brennan H. Scott. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 10:00 am in the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will receive friends Friday, February 18th from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
