Margie Kay Dowd

Margie Kay Dowd, 63, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on May 4, 2018 in her home surrounded by the ones she loved. She leaves behind her mother, Mildred Dunbar; her husband of 44 years, Daniel Dowd Sr.; two sons, Daniel Dowd, Jr. and his wife, Dawn and Matthew Dowd; one daughter, Christina Smith and her husband, Joey; and two grandchildren, Cheyenne and Makayla Smith. Margie was preceded in death by her father, Anson Dunbar; and three brothers, Bobby Dunbar, Doodle Dunbar and Stanley Dunbar. Margie graduated from Hopewell High School and became a wife and mother to three kids. She spent her life loving them and providing for all their needs. Then when her two granddaughters came along she said her heart was finally complete. Margie enjoyed more of the simple things in life and found spending time with family and friends more important than anything materialistic. She had a wonderful sense of humor and laughter could always be heard when around her. One of her favorite things to do was visit her daughter and grandkids in Florida and sit by the pool and cookout. If you knew her then you probably thought of her at some point in your life as a second mom or grandma. She always said no mountain was too big for her to move if any one of her kids or grandkids needed or wanted her. Heaven gained a special woman and we all look forward to seeing her again one day. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 in Appomattox Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson, officiating. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com
