Maria Latino

October 18, 1960 — July 23, 2023

Maria Latino, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, lost her battle with colon cancer on July 23, 2023 surrounded by loved ones and friends. Originally from San Bernardino, CA, she moved with her family to Macon, GA, then settling in Fayetteville, NC. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill on May 16, 1982 with a degree in Administration of Criminal Justice, she began her career as a probation officer in the prison system in Tappahannock, VA. She then became a probation/parole officer in the Richmond, VA area. She finished her 25 years as a probation/parole officer in District 27 in Chesterfield VA.

She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team. She worked at the Richmond Diamond for the Richmond Braves as an usher for many seasons. She participated with friends in the annual Susan Komen Race for the Cure. She loved the beach especially the Outer Banks and enjoyed her yearly beach week with friends. She was passionate about music, and The Blues Cruise and The Richmond Folk Festival were favorite pastimes.

She is survived by her sister, Giovanna Latino-Michels (Tom) of Chester, Virginia; her brother, Joseph V. Latino (Linda) of Raeford, North Carolina; and her dear friend, Charles Field (Stacey) of Richmond, VA. She will be missed by her nieces and nephew, Jennifer Latino, Joyce Latino-Anderson (Ron), Justina Michels, and Vincent H.L. Michels (Lucy); her great-nieces and nephews include Mary Grace Anderson, Andy Anderson, Joe Anderson, and Lola Michels.

The family will receive friends at 10 AM, with the funeral at 11 AM on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Route 1, South Chesterfield, Virginia 23834. A reception will be held in the church social hall after the service. A private interment will be held in North Carolina at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice of Virginia and /or the Massey Cancer research of VCU is requested.
