Marian Mustoe Barfield

Marian Mustoe Barfield, age 84, of Chesterfield, VA, died on January 15, 2019. Ms. Barfield was born Nov 15, 1934 at Fort Sam Houston, TX, to Col. Anthony Quintus and Ellen Mustoe, when her father was stationed there with the U.S. Air Force. After her father’s retirement, the family moved to Lakeland, Florida, where she graduated from Lakeland High School. She graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon Georgia in 1956 and Mercer University, also in Macon, where she received a MEd in 1964. She taught school in Macon for several years before the family moved to Texas in 1969. Ms. Barfield was a resident of Lubbock, Texas for 4 years and then Amarillo, TX, for 31 years. While in Amarillo, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels for 20 years. She was a member of St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Amarillo where she was a member of the choir, Vestry, Altar Guild and Columbarium Committee. She worked her way up to Assistant Plant Manager at Southwestern Publications where she worked for 18 years before the plant’s closing in 1991. She then worked at another printing plant for several years followed by 5 years as a legal secretary prior to her retirement. Ms. Barfield moved to Colonial Heights, VA, in 2006. She was a resident of Lucy Corr’s Springdale Retirement Community from 2017 to her death. Ms. Barfield was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Heights. Ms. Barfield is predeceased by her parents and a son, Robert E. Barfield, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Sue Lloyd, of Rutherfordton, NC; two daughters, Ellen Barfield of Baltimore, MD; Susan Keophila of Portsmouth, VA; four grandchildren, Christin Kenny of Bellevue, NE, Anthony Hartman of Amarillo, TX, Samantha Keophila of Colonial Heights, VA, Christopher Keophila of Chester, VA, and 7 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home at 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, on Friday, January 18, 2019. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Building Fund or the Humane Society of the U.S.A.
