Marie Inez Skerritt, 97, of Danville, CA, formerly of Petersburg, VA passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021. Born in Tunis, North Carolina on June 24, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William and Bettie Dolby, and was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Edward James Skerritt, Jr.; daughter, Donna Smith; and son-in-law, Thomas Heath. Marie worked for a telephone company, Brown and Williamson Tobacco, and as a private seamstress, but her favorite job in life was being a mother and a homemaker. She loved daily interactions with her family and the time she spent around the home and in the kitchen. Some of her favorite food included bananas, chicken, sausage, greens, veggies, morning protein pancakes and anything sweet! Marie was always on the go and enjoyed walking. A world traveler, she has visited Europe and been on many family trips and cruises. In her church group, she regularly enjoyed singing and playing music, crafts, bingo and coffee over lunch with her friends. She was deeply loved and will be painfully missed by her family, but they will always remember that she is with her Lord in her new home. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Angell and husband, David James, Brenda Heath; son-in-law, Wayne Smith; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Laura Angell, Christopher Heath and wife, Beth, Kevin Heath and wife, Christina, Ryan Smith and wife, Beth, Justin Smith and wife, Ashley, Jessica Rainey and husband Travis; great-grandchildren, Austin, Colby, Brantley, Logan, Gracie, Lucas, Myles, Nolan, Jacob, Emily, Rylan, Jaxon; great-great-granddaughter, Ava; sister, Vola Bishop, with whom a timeless bond is shared; special niece, Bonnie; and other extended family members and many friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Homes, 6616 Boydton Plank Road, N. Dinwiddie, VA 23803.
