Mario Roy Battista, 92, of N. Chesterfield, VA, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015. He was the son of the late Anthony and Elizabeth Falsca Battista and was also preceded in death by his wife, Totty Battista. M. Roy was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a graduate of Michigan University and began his work career for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Providence, Rhode Island. He established an outstanding reputation and transitioned from his humble beginnings as an Assistant Office Manager all the way to President of the Roanoke-based divisions retiring after 40 years. M. Roy was a member of numerous civic, medical, and professional organizations. He also served as a healthcare consultant to numerous U.S. entities and international countries. He was a life-long philanthropist and gave generously to others in need. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He is survived by his two daughters, Gail Battista and Paige Battista; brother, Robert Battista; two sisters-in-law, Ann Attanasio and Irene Battista; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Wednesday July 22, 2015 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfied Dr. N. Chesterfield, VA 23235. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at 12:15 pm at Southlawn Memorial Park.
