Marjorie Oak Jolly

Marjorie Oak Jolly, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Jolly, Jr., her parents Al and Gladys Oak and her three sisters Betty Paul, Dot Warman and Eleanor Ayer. Born in 1925, Margie was raised in Bound Brook, NJ, and went on to attend the College of William and Mary, Class of 1947, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, a varsity cheerleader and a member of the women’s varsity tennis team. Margie moved with her husband Bill, who she met at the college, to Petersburg upon graduation from William and Mary, and using her skills as a graphic artist began her career drawing fashion advertisements for Rucker Rosenstock department store for publication in the Progress Index newspaper. After the closing of the store, Margie worked in civil service doing graphic design for the U.S. Army at Fort Lee where she continued to work for 21 years. She was active in the community and was instrumental in creating the swimming team at the Battlefield Park Swim and Racquet Club in Petersburg, and served on that board for many years. Margie is survived by her three children, William (Bill) Jolly of Norfolk, VA, Carolyn Widmoyer of Amelia Courthouse, VA, and Fred Jolly, along with her grandsons Ellis and Evan Jolly of San Diego, CA. The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at the Dunlop House Assisted Living Facility in Colonial Heights where she lived for the past three years. A remembrance service will be held on Saturday, April 28, at 2 PM in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home located at 103 South Adams St. Petersburg, VA.
