Mark Wilson Hill

Mark Wilson Hill, 33, of Chester, VA, died peacefully in his sleep on September 8, 2022. Born to missionary parents in Belém, Pará, Brazil, Mark delighted in his childhood experiences there. He attended the Amazon Valley Academy until 2001, when his family returned to the United States. In 2003, his family settled in his mother's hometown of Lynchburg, VA, and in 2008, Mark graduated from Brookville High School. In 2015, he completed a BA in Art (Graphic Design) and Music (Voice minor). Mark was pursuing a professional certification program in 3-D Animation with an emphasis in colorization (color analysis) through the Global Art Institute.
Mark took pride in his work experiences as a salesman/cashier for 11 years at Lifeway Christian Store, Lynchburg, VA, and as a Summer 2021 Rides Operator at Kings Dominion, earning the Top Tower award for his division. Mark was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, VA, where he participated in the church choir and hand bell ensemble. Mark was all about superheroes (DC, Marvel, Power Rangers, Pokémon, anime, etc.), his favorite being The Flash; he spent hours discussing plots and details about these characters with his friends.
He enjoyed studying and writing stories, either about superheroes, his autobiography, or about his faith and in-depth theological topics. His interests included the fine arts through a variety of mediums: art (graphic design and animation), music (vocal), and music theater. Mark's friends describe him as a positive, kind, and gentle soul, one who was always ready to share jokes and silly stories or songs, and willing to befriend those he sensed could use a friend. Mark showed unwavering support, loyalty, and forgiveness for anyone he knew. He enjoyed sharing his talent and creativity with others. He especially enjoyed playing card and board games with family and friends.
Mark is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ross and Merie Dell Hill, and Ralph and Mildred Wilson. He is survived by his parents, David and Carol Wilson Hill; his brother, Aaron William Hill; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The first memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, VA, with a visitation following. A second memorial service will occur at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, Lynchburg, VA, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.
