Marquita Anne Simpson (McKillop), 78, passed away on Labor Day, September 4, 2017. Marquita was a resident of Prince George County, Virginia, for more than 40 years. Marquita was born in Princeton, Indiana, and met her true love, Jerry Simpson, while in junior high in Cadiz, Ohio. She excelled in academics and was the salutatorian and homecoming queen of her senior class. Marquita and Jerry married in 1959 shortly after graduating from Ohio State University, and then they traveled to various parts of the globe as United States Army officer and spouse. After military retirement, Marquita and Jerry began their second careers as business owners and florists in Prince George County. Marquita was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her children and grandchildren were a continuous source of her joy. Faith was a cornerstone of her life; she was a lifetime Christian and member of Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years. Marquita was a talented artist, and her passion for painting was most often expressed through family portraits and floral still lifes. Marquita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Col. Jerry Jay Simpson, U.S. Army, Retired; her parents, John Borden and Ruth Hancock McKillop; and her brother John McKillop. She is survived by her sons, Mark Simpson and Matthew Simpson; her daughter, Andrea Amacker; her granddaughter, Angelina Jenkins; her grandsons, Hunter Amacker, Erroll Amacker, Logan Simpson, and Luke Simpson; her daughters-in-law, Linda Simpson and Christine Simpson; her son-in-law, Billy Amacker; many cherished relatives in the Simpson and McKillop families; and many friends. The family will receive friends from 12pm to 1pm on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Gregory Memorial Presbyterian Church 6300 Courthouse Rd, Prince George, VA 23875. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday at the church with interment to follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. Charitable donations may be made to the Prince George Food Bank.
