Martha Schools Byrd

Martha Schools Byrd, 94, of Stony Creek, passed away on March 29, 2014. Born in Portsmouth, VA she was the daughter of the late Vincent J. and Margaret Walters Schools; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Guy Byrd; and her twin sister, Margaret Hardin. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Fort Grove United Methodist Church in Stony Creek, and had also worked for the Norfolk Navy Yard and the Naval Air Rework Facility. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Williams and husband, John; one grandson, C. Jason Williams and wife, Teresa; and two great-granddaughters, Griffin and Clara Williams. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Fort Grove United Methodist Church, 12471 Church St., Stony Creek, VA 23882. Interment will be private. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fort Grove United Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Byrd.
