Martha Susan Waller Hatchett, â??Susieâ?, 65, devoted mother and teacher, of Disputanta, passed away Monday, July 6, 2009. She was a native of Petersburg born the daughter of Alice Dewell Waller â??Shineyâ? and the late Manning Franklin Waller. Mrs. Hatchett was a school teacher for over 30 years and mainly taught Latin and English. Throughout her career she taught at several schools including Prince George High School, Sussex Central High School, Gibbons/St. Vincent DePaul High School, and Thomas Dale High School. After retiring, she couldn't give up her lover for the classroom and began substitute teaching at Clements Junior High in Prince George. She was the widow of Joseph William Hatchett and is survived by her daughter, Lisa H. Mullins and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Matthew Blake Mullins and Samuel Austin Mullins; cousins Gloria Morris, David Dewell, Anita Deligan, Dan Carrington and numerous other loving friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, July 9th, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, at 10 AM with Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating. Interment to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park.
