Martha Lanier Hinton, 100, of Colonial Heights, passed away at her home on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Robert Homer Lanier and Frances Mason Tench. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Kathleen L. Dunn, Frances L. Pegram, Henrietta R. Lanier; two brothers, R. Homer Lanier Jr., J. Sidney Lanier; and a son-in-law, Wamer J. Callahan Jr. During her lifetime she was an elementary school teacher, and a social worker. Before retiring from the state in 1974 she was the Director of Juvenile Court Services for the 11th Judicial District. Mrs. Hinton was an active member of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg, for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth H. Callahan; a sister, Mary L. Covington; two brothers, Winfield W. Lanier III, Charles E. Lanier and wife, Yolanda, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. The family will gather at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Petersburg, Va., for a committal service. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 S. Sycamore Street, Petersburg, Va., 23805. After the service, the family will receive friends in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be may to Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, or to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
