Marvin Randolph Mathis, 64, of Hopewell, died Friday, February 27, 2009 in Hopewell Convalescent Center. Marvin was born in Hopewell and had been a lifelong resident. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose #1472, a former member of the Hopewell Jaycees, a volunteer umpire for the Hopewell Recreation Department. He will be remembered in the community for his outgoing and helpful personality. Marvin never met a stranger and was well liked by everyone he came in contact with. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond â??Nickâ? and Annie Lee Mathis, and a brother, Raymond Earl Mathis. Marvin is survived by numerous cousins. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 3, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Appomattox Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Raymond, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating.
