Marvin Lee Wheeler, 82, passed away Monday, June 19, 2006 at Eden Pines Assisted Living in Petersburg, VA. after several years of illness. Born September 10, 1923 in Spring Hill near Wakefield, VA, he was a son of the late Harry John Wheeler and Ruby Mae Clark Wheeler. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees; was a member of the American Legion Post 191; was a past member of the VFW; was a member of Waverly Christian Church; and had retired from Firestone. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Ethel Griggs Wheeler; and a daughter, Phyllis Peffer.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife, Anne M. Wheeler; a daughter, Bonnie Whitus of Lebanon, TN; two sons, Richard Wheeler of Spring Grove, VA. and Robin Wheeler of Kill Devil Hills, NC; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held Friday, June 23, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in Waverly Cemetery, Spring Branch Rd., Waverly, VA., with the Rev. Joy Heaton officiating. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 W.
