Mary Alice Bland

Mary Alice Bland, passed away at her home on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Born on August 30, 1933 she was a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County, VA and was the daughter of the late Mary Eunice and Robert Opie Royster. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marie R. Wilkinson; and three brothers, William, Alvin and Carl Royster. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, James Meador Bland, Sr.; a daughter, Tamara Bland Howerton (Chuck); two sons, James Meador Bland, Jr. (Lynne) and Hunter Scott Bland (Trisha); four grandchildren, Charles Grant Howerton (Megan), Jordan Blake Howerton, Hannah Nicole Bland and Elizabeth Leigh Bland; five special nieces, Donna Allen, Lorraine Wilkinson, Frances Durham, Janet Harrison and Shelia Royster; and a very special nephew, Robert M. Wilkinson, Jr. She was a member of Kenwood United Methodist Church, where she and her husband Jimmie were the first couple married there. Mrs. Bland was an exceptionally dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a retired Civil Service employee at Fort Lee, VA for over 30 years. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
