Mary Kenny Burroughs, 78, of Hopewell, Virginia, peacefully departed this life on Monday, February 9, 2004 in John Randolph Medical Center. She was born in Dunmore County, Galway, Ireland and had made her home Hopewell for the past 55 years. Mrs. Burroughs was a member of the Trans-Atlantic Brides and Parents Association and a member of St. James Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Kathleen Kenny and her loving husband, James, who died in 1992. She is survived by her son, Kevin Burroughs and his wife, Debby, and her loving daughters, Josephine Bracken and her husband Frank, Frances Natoli, Patricia Parrish and her husband Wayne, Maureen Hunter, Eileen Jernigan and her husband Joseph, and Sheila Burroughs. She is also survived by her loving sister, Agnes Bravender and her brother, Patrick Kenny of Ireland and over 100 family members in Ireland, her grandchildren Natasha Eaton and her husband Brett, Megan Parrish, Kyle Burroughs, Michael Hunter, Robert Magee, Eric Cohen, Sandy Harless as well as her “adopted granddaughter”, Lauren Cotman, and three great grandchildren. She leaves her lifelong friend, Jeannine Collins as well as her “adopted daughter”, Denise Jernigan and her husband Michael and friends too numerous to count. Mary was born in Ireland and left for England to become a nurse during World War II, where she met James, married and came to America., She devoted her life to raising her children. No one ever met Mary who did not appreciate her sense of humor, twinkling smile, generosity, wisdom, optimism and her ability to find the good in everyone. She taught us all how to live with grace and dignity and will be greatly missed. Family and friends will be received at the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:30PM and the funeral will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Hopewell on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 2:00PM followed by a graveside service at Appomattox Cemetery.
