Mary Ann Clark Chappell, 89, of Carson, VA, and a native of Dinwiddie County, passed away on May 13, 2016. Born on August 5, 1926, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Annie Connelly Clark and James Haywood Clark; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Marks Chappell; brother, James Haywood Clark, Jr.; and her son, Richard Connelly Chappell. She is survived by her sons, James Harrison Chappell and his wife, Beverly T. Chappell, William Jarratt Chappell, and Franklin Clark Chappell; grandchildren, Brooke Chappell Hensley, Meredith Ann Chappell Martin, and Lee Jarratt Chappell; great-grandchildren, Lila Hensley, Eli James Hensley, and Chloe Martin; nieces, Rebecca C. Scanlon and Nancy W. Williams. The family greatly appreciates the love, care and support provided for Mary Ann by her health care aide, Brenda Wells and her family over the course of Mary Ann’s illness and death. Mary Ann graduated from Dinwiddie High School and attended the Virginia State Teachers College in Farmville, Va. She was a homemaker devoted to her husband, family and friends. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and Carson United Methodist Church. Her interests included cooking, music, and local sports games. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 103 S. Adams St., Petersburg, Va. 23803. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the funeral home.
