Mary Ann Connelly

Mary Ann Hansbrough Corder Connelly, 80, of Hopewell passed away on January 9, 2021 after a brief illness. Born February 2, 1940 in Mitchells, VA, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Christine Hansbrough, and was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Jean. She lived for many years in Culpeper, VA, attending the schools in Culpeper and graduating in 1958. She was a Majorette at Culpeper High School. She began her life’s career by assisting at Betty Brown’s Florist in Culpeper starting in the 8th grade. She moved to Richmond in 1962 and lived in the Midlothian area. She opened her first flower shop 1974, Flowers and Foliage, in the Sycamore Square Shopping Center and her second flower shop business in Gayton Crossings, finally retiring after 25 years. She also was a past member of the Greenfield Garden Club and the Stonehenge Garden Club. Mary Ann moved to Hopewell in 2007 where she and A.B. lived on Christopher Newport Drive. She and A.B. did extensive traveling: going across the United States several times, visiting Myrtle Beach Yearly, several cruises, New England and many trips to Florida. While in Hopewell, she attended First Methodist Church, was a member of the Historic Hopewell Society, the Wonder City Garden Club, Hopewell Woman’s Club, participated in the Meals on Wheels Program and with wonderful friends, visited local restaurants most Friday evenings. She is survived by the love of her life, A.B. Connelly, Hopewell, VA; ex-husband Robert G. Corder, Midlothian, VA; brother, Larry Hansbrough and wife, Fran; Mechanicsville, VA; cousin, Kay Suder (Roger), Culpeper, VA; nieces, Lynn Amos, Fishersville, VA, Lori Snider (husband Scott and grandniece Kelsey), Fishersville, VA, Paige Fearnow, (husband, Todd, and children, Austin, Alex, and Allyson) and Susan Eller (husband, Jim and daughter, Riley), Mechanicsville, VA; three step daughters, Dawn Connelly, Chandler, AZ, Hope Connelly (and family), Mesa, AZ, Cheri Connelly, Hopewell, VA; and dear friends Barbara Barnes, Nancy Fines, Earlene Bayliss and David Harless. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Homes.
