Mary Dunnavant Crowder, 66, of Chester, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Born in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late William S. Dunnavant, Sr. and Dorothy J. Dunnavant; and was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Marilyn Crowder. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Harold Crowder, Jr.; three children, Andrew Crowder and wife, Whitney; Nicole Crowder and husband, Mike Lowry; and Hillary Smith and husband, Ray; four grandchildren, Finlee, Waverley, and Dune Crowder and Marissa Lowry; a brother, William Dunnavant, Jr.; a sister, Linda McDorman and husband, Steve; and her father-in-law, Harold Crowder, Sr. She was devoted to her family, loved spending time with her siblings, children, and grandchildren, and traveling on adventures with her husband, leaving a lasting legacy of love and many memories. Mary was a dedicated and passionate teacher who cared for each of her many students. She loved to read, relax on the beach, bake, all kinds of crafts and scrapbooking, spending time with treasured friends, and exploring her ancestry especially her Irish heritage. Mary was a woman of tremendous faith who believed that angels were watching over us. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Chester United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
