Mary Eakin

d. January 30, 2004

Mary Christine Kinkaid Eakin passed away Friday, January 30, 2004. Chris, as she was known to everyone, was a loving and faithful wife and mother. She was one of seven girls who was born and raised in Lexington, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, LCDR, Edward M. Eakin, USN, retired, and five sisters. She is survived by her only child, Edward M. Eakin Jr. and her two grandchildren, Edward M. Eakin III (Jeb) and Susan Gray Eakin. She also has one loving sister, Betty McClellan of Towson, Md. Her husband was a career Navy man, and she accepted his many changes of duty stations as well as his lengthy overseas deployments with an attitude of courage and grace. His career necessitated over 16 moves before his retirement. She was always able to make furniture and curtains somehow fit with each move. She was very active in the Presbyterian Church and maintained a deep faith in God. During the time that she lived in Waynesboro, she was very involved with the Thrift Shop and found her calling in helping other people. She was quite proud of her involvement with the hospital as a “Pink Lady” and had been recognized for donating over 6,000 hours to the Waynesboro General Hospital. In Lieu of flowers, the family would suggest contributions to Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave. Suite 100 Richmond, Virginia 23226, or to the Prince George Emergency Crew P.O. Box 308 Prince George, Va. 23875, or the Hopewell Emergency Crew P.O. Box 572 Hopewell, Va. 23860.
