Mary H. Phelps

Mrs. Mary Jane (Janie) Hudson Phelps,80,of Hopewell, died, Monday, March 15, 2004 at the Hopewell Health Care Center following a brief illness. She was born in Clifton Forge, Va. and was a resident of Hopewell for more than 70 years. Mrs. Phelps was a retired bookkeeper for the Federal Correctional Institution. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hansel Marshall and Emma Burks Hudson, her husband, Browne Junior (Jeep) Phelps and a brother, Hansel Marshall Hudson, Jr. Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca S. Slagle and husband, James, a son, Robert E. Saleeby and wife, Karoline, five grandchildren, Mary Ginny S. Warren and husband, Jerry, Rebecca S. Fredette and husband, Kyle, Kathryn J. Slagle, Christine Saleeby, Craig E. Saleeby and wife Marlene and three great-grandchildren, Regan and Jenna Saleeby and Abby Warren, two sisters, Frances H. Oliver and husband Murry and Barbara H. Graham and husband, Ronald. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 P.M. at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 18,2004 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Willie Cromer, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery.
