Mary Carol Tyler Harris departed this life on March 6, 2014 in Petersburg, Va. She was born July 17, 1929 to Carroll and Louise Tyler in Durham, NC. She grew up in South Boston, VA, graduating from C. H. Friend High School and attending Mary Washington College. She completed her degree at Limestone College. In 1948, Mary Carol married Calvin Cecil Harris, Sr. and together they raised four children. Mrs. Harris was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in South Boston. She loved to contribute to her community as a landscape painter and was a member of The Daughters of The American Revolution, The United Daughters of The Confederacy and The American Legion Auxiliary. Mary Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin, her sisters, Mattie Louise Arnault, and Alice Elizabeth Tyler, and by her grandson, James Blackwell, III. She is survived by her children, Martha Manson (Bruce), Calvin Cecil Harris, Jr., Andrew Harris (Brenda), and Bridgette Blackwell (Marion), six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at the residence of Bruce and Marti Manson on Friday March 14th from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on March 15th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Petersburg. Interment will follow on March 17th at 11am in Halifax Memorial Gardens in South Boston.
