Mary Ellen Stevens Harrison, 87, of Chesterfield and formerly of Dinwiddie County, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 28, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred F. Harrison; brothers Richard, John, Joseph “Joe”, William “Bill”, and George; sisters, Rachel Stevens Brill, and Nellie Stevens Tillery. She is survived by her sister, Daphne S. Jones; 2 very special nephews Larry Harrison (Sandra), George Stevens (Cathy); a special friend, Kelli Atchison; and many other nieces and nephews. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Richmond Professional Institute, now Virginia Commonwealth University in 1954; receiving her masters of education in guidance and counseling, in 1971 from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mary Ellen was an active member of Kenwood UMC. She devoted her career to public education as a teacher and later as a guidance counselor. Mary Ellen enjoyed spending her free time as a volunteer at Appomattox Regional Library, Rohoic Branch. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Lucy Corr Village, and Capitol Caring Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday, July 31 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, August 1.
