Mary Virginia Humphries

Mary Virginia Humphries, 90, of Sutherland, passed away at her residence on Thursday, August 30, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Thomas and Lillie Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Humphries, Sr.; daughter, Marjorie Humphries Walker; and grandson, Emmett Walker, Jr. Mary is survived by her beloved son, Willie Humphries and wife, Margaret; grandchildren, Jennifer Humphries, Christine Walker Mosbey and husband, Darryl, Norma DeVane and husband, Billy, and Wayne Walker and friend, Emma; great-grandchild, Blake DeVane and wife, Cynthia, great-great-grandchildren, Tyler Pearce, Emily Pearce, Kyle Walker, Crystal Flinn, and Ashley Garner; son-in-law, Emmett Walker, Sr. and wife, Ella. Mary was employed with C & P Telephone Co. retiring after more than 34 years of service. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Dinwiddie. She enjoyed working in her garden, sewing, fishing, camping and traveling whenever she could. Mary will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thankyou to the caregivers for their care and compassion. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
