Mary Arline McGuire, 90, of Chester VA, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. She was the daughter of the late, Preston and Mary Cannon Wray; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. McGuire. Mrs. McGuire was elected Treasurer of Chesterfield County in 1979. She was the first female official elected countywide and served in the Treasurer’s office for over 35 years. Mrs. McGuire was a founding member and past president of the Chesterfield County Historical Society, and was heavily involved with many civic and community organizations in Chester. She was a longtime faithful member of Chester Baptist Church. She was affectionately known by her family as “Honey”. Mrs. McGuire is survived by her daughter, Pam Womack and husband, Ronald; two granddaughters, Christine Copa and husband, Mark, and Hillary Hawkins and husband, Brett; five great-grandchildren, Sloane, Smith, Lane, Tripp, and Mary-Stuart; one brother, Joe Wray and wife, Frances; as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Chester Baptist Church, 4317 School St, Chester, VA 23831, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Braswell, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Thursday, August 24 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son.
