Mary Ellen Mayhew Moody, 85, of Sutherland, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010. Born in Gretna, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Fannie Elizabeth Davis Mayhew. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moody was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Moody; a grandson, James Lee Moody; and her brothers, R. L. Mayhew and Giles Mayhew. She was employed with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company for 19 years before opening Moodyâ??s Texaco in Sutherland, which she and her husband operated for approximately 25 years. She loved her customers dearly. Her true loves were her flowers and her doll babies, dancing and her family. She will be truly missed. Mrs. Moody is survived by her husband of 70 years, Garland L. Moody; children, Garland Moody, Jr. (Evelyn) of Blackstone, Gary Steve Moody of Capron, VA, Brenda M. Hart of Sutherland, Robert Michael Moody (Debbie) of Colonial Heights, and Rhonda Dale Moody (Billy Roper) of Petersburg; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a sister, Pauline Bryant (Joe) of Church Road, numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to a special friend, William C. Jolly, and to Hospice of Virginia nurses, Joyce Lynch and Linda Smith. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 16th, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Rodney Jenkins of Pine Grove Baptist Church, officiating.
