Mary Bishop Pruden

Mary Catherine Bishop Pruden, 87, of Hopewell, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 with her family at her side. She was born October 11, 1930 in Hopewell, Va. and was the daughter of the late Cabel and Sophia Bishop. She played piano and organ at St. John’s Episcopal Church from the age of 14 until present. She graduated from Hopewell High School and James Madison University, where she earned her Masters of Education. She returned to Hopewell and began her love of teaching at Dupont and Patrick Copeland School. Her passion throughout her life was being an organist, where she was honored with the title of Organist Emeritus. She was a devoted and dedicated member of St. John’s and loved her church family and was well known throughout the community for her gifted talent. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and daughter. She was a legacy member of Woman’s Club, St. Katherine’s Guild, St. Martha’s Guild, and Bulletin’s Folders of St. John’s. She is survived by her daughter, Karen P. Fuzy; grandson, Zachary Fuzy; devoted cousins, Ann Janosik, Katrina Janosik (Keith), and Thomas Lee Janosik; nephew, Christopher Brockwell; niece, Billie Brockwell; and numerous other cousins, family and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, John M. Pruden, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Friday, March 9, 2018 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 505 Cedar Lane, Hopewell, VA 23860. Interment will follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held at the church immediately following Interment.
