Mary Frances Cleaton Ragsdale, 84, a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County, passed away peacefully at her residence, Gatewood Farms, Wednesday, May 25, 2005. She was the daughter of the late William Jackson Cleaton and Myra Duane Darby Cleaton, both of Dinwiddie, and the widow of John Randolph Ragsdale, Jr. She was a long-time member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Dinwiddie Historic Society, the Petersburg Country Club, and was an avid golfer. Mrs. Ragsdale is survived by her two sons, Dr. John Randolph Ragsdale, III and wife, Barbara of Petersburg and Francis Scott Ragsdale and wife, Lynda of Dinwiddie; five grandchildren, Barbara Elizabeth Austin Ragsdale of Raleigh, N.C., Mary Ashley Randolph Ragsdale of Atlanta, GA., James Scott Ragsdale and John Clark Ragsdale both of Charlottesville, VA., and Tyler Hamilton Ragsdale of Dinwiddie; a great-granddaughter, Audrey James Ragsdale of Charlottesville; a brother, Everett Millard Cleaton of Dinwiddie; a foster sister, Mary Chandler Graziano of Absecon, N.J.; and dear friend and companion, Gladys P. Coleman. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Thursday, May 26, at Gatewood, the family home in Dinwiddie County. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, May 27, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Mary White, pastor of Lebanon United Methodist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lebanon UMC Building Fund, P. O. Box 156, Dinwiddie, VA 23841 or the Massey Cancer Center, 401 College Street, Richmond, VA 23298.
