Mary Ida Rivera

Mary Ida Rivera, 75, of Chester, Virginia died May 13, 2019, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Rivera is survived by her husband of 58 years, Juan F. Rivera of Chester, Virginia; daughter, Rose Adams and her husband Dennis of Prince George and son Juan E. Rivera and his wife Beth of Manassas; grandchildren, Chelsey, Sydney, Megan, and Emily; and brothers Wallace M. Shanks, Wayne R. Shanks, Charles L. Shanks and sister Patricia E. Windham, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rivera was preceded in death by her parents Junior E. Shanks and Hazel D. Jarvis Shanks, and brother Richard G. Shanks. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and active member of Saint James Catholic Church in Hopewell, Virginia. She loved gardening, crafting, floral arranging, cooking for family and friends, volunteering at her church, but more than anything, she loved spending time with her husband, grandchildren, and family. A wake and rosary will be held from 6:00-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Saint James Catholic Church followed by the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church, Hopewell, Virginia.
