Mary Rebecca Savedge, 86, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009, at the Waverly Health Care Center. Born September 5, 1922 in Surry County VA, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Emma Sue McAllister Savedge. Miss Savedge was a graduate of Surry High School and a member of Carsley United Methodist Church, Waverly. She was a retired bank teller and had formerly worked for SunTrust Bank of Williamsburg and the Bank of Sussex & Surry in Wakefield. During World War II, she worked at the Norfolk Naval Base. Upon retiring, Miss Savedge returned to Surry County, where she enjoyed country living and horseback riding. She was a member of the Williamsburg Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; the Pocahontas Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; and the Thomas Rolfe Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities.
Miss Savedge is survived by four nieces, Sue Douglas Wallace and Sally Rebecca Wallace, both of Waverly, Suzanne Savedge Flynn of Pittsburgh PA, and Anita Savedge Vick of Chesapeake; a nephew, J. Charles Savedge of Surry; two great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, 2:00 p.m. in Carsley United Methodist Church, Waverly, with Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Church Cemetery, Surry. The family will receive friends at Carsley United Methodist Church on Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
