Mary Anna Bobola Hester Shevitz died peacefully in Colonial Heights, Va. on May 14, 2021 at the age of 85. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Bohemia. The family will receive friends at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillian Bobola; and her husband, Dr. Richard L. Shevitz.
She is survived by her sister, Kay Sheehy (Jay); sons James Hester (Eva), Gerry Hester, Dale Hester (Audrey), Dean Hester (Cindy Wingo), Jimmy Hester (Missy), Dr. David Shevitz (Carole); Daughters Myra Bell (Richard), Ashley Costell (Tom), and Vickie King (Craig) and Gloria Conway.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Ray Hester, Sara Hester (Steve Kolev), Chole Harding, Jason Reagor, Scott Andrews (Linda Collins), Sarah Wingo (Jonathon Sides), Lauren Shevitz, Jacob Shevitz, Jamie King, Matthew King, Braedon Shevitz and Cade Shevitz; along with numerous great-grandchildren
She was born in Chicago on December 25, 1935, raised in Cedar Lake Indiana and resided in New Smyrna Beach, Florida before relocating her family to Virginia in 1966. After her late husband’s death, she operated Rose’s Rexall Drugstore, and later owned/operated the Bowling Alley in Colonial Heights. She was an active member of her beloved Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 55 years.
