Mary Smith

Mrs. Mary Beach Smith, widow of J. Henry Smith formerly of Richmond and Williamsburg, Va. and Emerald Isle, NC, died Saturday, November 27, 2004. She was born September 8, 1903 at the family home at 132 West Franklin Street in Petersburg. She was the daughter of the late William Branch Beach and Nancy Maclin Beach. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her son William Beach Smith, her sister, Nancy Crowther Archibald and brother, William Henry Beach. An avid artist, Mrs. Smith was also an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Grandmothers Club in Richmond, the Tuckahoe Woman’s Club and the Country Club of Petersburg. Mrs. Smith is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Henry Smith, III of Emerald Isle, NC; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carol J. Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; her niece, Mrs. Nancy Crowther Archibald; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a great niece and nephew. Graveside services will be conducted 1:30 P.M. Thursday, December 2 in Blandford Cemetery. The Reverend Boston M. Lackey, Jr. retired rector of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church in Petersburg will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Heartland Home Healthcare and Hospice, 5040 Corporate Woods Drive, Suite 150, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
