Mary Virginia Teass 87 died at the Petersburg Home for Ladies on June 8, 2014. Born October 7, 1926 she was a lifelong resident of the city. After attending Longwood College she spent many years as a substitute teacher with the Petersburg School system and working with children in kindergarten and Pre-K programs. While she was an avid gardener who enjoyed planting all varieties of flowers and shrubs she was also a sports enthusiast being particularly fond of tennis and swimming. However, her greatest pleasure in life was helping those who needed a helping hand and she did so with a generous spirit and bountiful heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Edward Teass, her sister Martha Walsh Welch, her mother Sally Munt Walsh and her father William Bernard Walsh.
Survivors include four nieces Martha Anne Welch (Stephen), Barbara Vaughn Benitez (Rudy), Frances Alexandra Welch and Deborah Jane Welch; niece Anne Ferrell Smith (Gary); nephew Dr. Jefferson Kirkland Teass (Susan); and great nephews Alexander Vaughn Repsold and Tyler Kirlkand Teass (Heather). She is also survived by her sister-in-law Claudia Teass.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Blandford Cemetery with a reception immediately following at the Petersburg Home For Ladies. The Reverend David Teschner will officiate
